There are a host of programs aimed to help spur the biofuels industry in Canada. Grants, tax exemptions and technology funds offer many resources for the eager biofuels start-up. The following is a compiled list of government programs, both federally and provincially, for biofuels.

It has been four years since Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), more commonly known as “Mad Cow Disease,” plagued the cattle industry in Canada. Despite this, remnants of the BSE scare still emanate in the minds of many. So much so, that the meer mention of it at a recent public equity drive meeting for Saskatchewan’s Cypress Agri Energy sparked spontaneous discussion underlining the benefits of the ethanol industry, the value and uses of distillers grains and the powerful concept of industrial ecology.

As the North American ethanol industry faces rising grain prices and several other nations institute “test” ethanol mandates on a small percentage of national gasoline usage, engineering companies respond to these issues with combined experience and creativity. Following are a few of the progressive steps the industry may take in the coming months.
